Two men surrendered yesterday in the theft of a copy of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” from a Wisconsin movie theater.
The suspects – who were not identified – gave themselves up to cops and handed over three garbage bags containing a print of the sci-fi smash.
The film was snatched last weekend from the projection room at the State Theater in Menomonie – sparking fears the print would be used to make pristine bootleg videos.
But Lt. Doug Briggs told The Post: “To the best of our information at this time, it was not copied.”
Briggs said the break in the case came after detectives found a 5-foot length of film in a field about a quarter-mile from the theater.
“It was pretty crumpled up and dirty and looked like it had been rained on,” Briggs said.
The 40-pound film has a value of $60,000 on the black market.
The theater, which received a replacement for the stolen film, lost about $4,000 in ticket sales while waiting for it.
