BACKTRACK TO THE FUTURE: FRANKLIN AVE. SHUTTLE ROLLS

The Franklin Avenue shuttle is back from near-death.

The Transit Authority will reopen the 1.4-mile elevated Brooklyn line tomorrow – nearly four months ahead of schedule – following an $80 million overhaul.

The shuttle, once deemed the transit system’s worst line for service and filth, was nearly replaced by bus service.

The four-stop line runs through Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant, connecting the A and C lines at Franklin Avenue and Fulton Street with the D and Q station in Prospect Park. It serves 10,000 riders daily.

Improvements include:

*Spiffy platforms, stairs, stained-glass windows, lighting and tracks.

*A tiled walkway between the 2, 3, 4 and 5 Franklin Avenue stop and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens stop.

*An enclosed stairwell, escalators and elevators for transfer between the A and C lines at Franklin Avenue-Fulton Street.

*MetroCard vending machines at all stations, gates and freshly painted entrances and booths.
