HAIRBRAINED EMPLOYERS ARE BIASED VS. BALDIES

Get ready to flip your wigs, guys – two new studies say balding men have less chance of getting the jobs they want than those with a full head of hair.

Researchers sent phony résumés, with photos of three bald men and three guys with full heads of hair, to 98 leading international firms.

The photos were actually of the same three men, and half the pictures had been digitally altered to show them with balding pates.

Of the bald candidates, only 27 percent were called for interviews – as opposed to 41 percent of those with hair.

And those with full heads of hair were classified by prospective employers as “pleasant” and “dynamic,” according to the Emnid Institute in Munich, which conducted one of the studies.

“The results showed that bald job-hunters were at a clear disadvantage over men with a full head of hair,” an Emnid spokesman said.

The Institute of Social Studies in Zurich used the same method and got almost identical results – 29 percent of the baldies got interviews, compared to 43 percent of guys with all their locks.

Hair-transplant companies are already taking advantage of the findings to get the business of worried chrome-domes.

One Swiss firm took out a full-page newspaper ad that reads: “So you want to do well in your career? Then look after your hair or wear a wig, because thinning spots can damage your career.”

Dr. Robert Butterworth, an L.A.-based clinical psychologist who uses the hair-growth drug Propecia to reverse his baldness, told The Post:

“This survey shows society believes that hair is sexy and bald is old. It gives credence to the fact that how you look can affect how far you get.”

Top advertising honcho and restaurateur Jerry Della Femina, known for his smooth, Kojak-like pate, told The Post:

“It’s true – people with a full head of hair do get a better reception.

“But it can work both ways. If a bald guy sits down for an interview with another bald guy, the guy with hair doesn’t stand a chance.”

Duncan Goodhew, the bald Olympic swimming gold-medalist who’s pate-riotic to fellow baldies, said he was disgusted by the survey results.

“It is such a negative response against us,” Goodhew told London’s Express newspaper.

“Many bosses seem to see hair as part of the visual statement about a person, so it becomes an issue. It is worrying that employers appear only to look skin deep, whereas talent is usually far deeper.”
