A new U.K.-based online auction site has launched its first U.S. promotion, selling luxury items – including a Sunseeker yacht from a James Bond movie – and a Tiara worn by Victoria Beckham, a.k.a. Posh Spice, at her wedding.
The auction by FiredUp.com, to benefit the British Red Cross, also includes a limited edition Mazda MX5, designed by Jasper Conran and the jewelry worn by Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston at the Oscars.
The auction ends June 1.
FiredUp.com, which is owned by News Network, a division of News Corporation, launched in February. News Corp. is the parent company of The Post.
The London-based site sells new and used items, but specializes in basing auctions around events such as the Oscars and Wimbledon.
It will compete with QXL, the UK’s answer to eBay which had a spectacular IPO in 1999, as well as with eBay and Amazon and Yahoo! auctions here.
Last week, the site of fered playoff tickets for the New York Knicks.
FiredUp.com also operates a service called “online haggling,” which allows users to haggle with a virtual assistant, Pam.
The auction, which is tied in with the Style section of the London Sunday Times, is part of News Corp.’s global strategy of leveraging its different properties.
