Police trying to solve a murder mystery on Long Island have created a computerized facial reconstruction to help identify a gunshot victim whose body was dumped alongside a scenic parkway.
The victim had been dead for about two months when his corpse was found on March 9.
State Police Senior Investigator Thomas O’Neill said the victim, a white male, 35 to 45 years old, was discovered by state workers in a wooded area off the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills.
The man, stuffed inside a black plastic garbage bag, had been shot three to five times in the head and torso with a large-caliber weapon, O’Neill said.
Perhaps most significant, he said, was that the dead man “has about eight teeth missing – and no dental work at all.”
The man, who weighed 140 to 150 pounds, had short, dark hair. He was wearing a khaki short-sleeved, V-neck knit shirt with black trim, and a blue bathing suit underneath blue jeans.
He also wore a “New Jersey” T-shirt depicting a seaside scene, said O’Neill.
Authorities created the facial reconstruction of the victim after dental and fingerprint comparisons failed to identify him.
O’Neill urged anyone with information to call investigators at (800) 220-TIPS or (631) 277-6193. All calls will be kept confidential, and callers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
