A Lower East Side teacher lashed out at her principal yesterday for demanding to know whether she wears thong underwear to school.
“I would almost want to see her humiliated the way I was humiliated,” said JHS 56 teacher Mary Ellen Saba.
And the powerful head of the teachers union called for principal Bonnie Long to apologize – “at the very least” – for “outrageous and intolerable” behavior.
“Stop asking invasive, personal questions. We demand that that type of conduct stop,” said United Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten.
Saba agreed to discuss the thong controversy at UFT headquarters yesterday after The Post reported that she was filing harassment charges against Long.
Saba insisted she’s a conservative dresser, and yesterday she wore a black suit with turtleneck.
The teacher said she was shocked when Long called her into the principal’s office and asked, “Are you wearing a thong?”
Saba said she refused to answer the question, but Long persisted, saying she heard that Saba wears tight pants. The teacher said that wasn’t the case.
She called the grilling “invasive” and “inappropriate,” adding, “It’s nobody’s business but my own what kind of underwear I wear.”
Meanwhile, another teacher fired by Long last year – Heather Karlsberg – charged that the principal had inappropriately questioned her about her attire.
The UFT is appealing her dismissal.
Long could not be reached for comment last night.
