NEXT year, it’s going to be BED-time in Manhattan. The owners of B.E.D., a suggestive Miami Beach eatery with no chairs, are opening a New York branch of the unusual hot spot in TriBeCa by next spring.
“We’re having difficulty with some of the permits because they base occupancy on seating. But we have no seats, just beds,” says owner Oliver Count Hoyos.
At B.E.D. (an acronym for beverage, entertainment and dining) patrons are sequestered to intimate beds – queen, king and super-sized – surrounded by gauze-like curtains and pillows. They sit shoeless and “Indian-style” in a circle around a central, large rotating dish, while being served by waiters in pajamas.
The executive chef will be Ghislain Kabuya Beya, a native of Amsterdam who was classically trained in a Michelin-rated restaurant.
When customers aren’t noshing on the modern French cuisine, the place offers (legal) massages. Sheets are changed several times each night.
Guests who have slipped past the velvet ropes in Miami Beach include Cameron Diaz and George Clooney.
