ANG Lee, currently riding high with his martial arts romance “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” has been tapped to direct Universal’s “The Hulk.”
The film, which has been in development for a while and is said to be heavily special effects driven, is a departure for the director whose eclectic filmography includes “Sense and Sensibility” and “The Ice Storm.”
His decision to helm the project – about a research scientist and his green alter ego – was clinched by David (“X-Men”) Hayter’s draft of the script, the Hollywood Reporter on-line reported yesterday.
Lee recently told The Post that, in choosing which films to direct, he “follows his heart.”
“Whatever at the time I feel is ready, I go for it and then I find out later why I wanted to do it,” he said.
Lee’s version of the film will be set in Berkeley, Calif., and will feature the Hulk being pursued by the military while attempting to ward off evil forces, as well as a love story between his human alter ego and a fellow female scientist.
