For Jason Sehorn, it was no big deal blanketing Randy Moss and coming up with a fourth-quarter interception at the goal line. Sehorn doesn’t get star-struck; if he did he wouldn’t be set to marry the lovely Angie Harmon.
Sehorn and the Giants’ defense put down their own brand of “Law & Order” yesterday at Giants Stadium and when it was over, when the Giants were finishing up their lovefest with the fans after the 41-0 wipeout of the Vikings and Springsteen’s “Glory Days” was blaring from the speakers, Sehorn found Harmon in the crowd at the 20-yard line. The two embraced, kissed and then walked off the field hand-in-hand like two high-school sweethearts, the beauty queen and the star player.
There couldn’t have been a more perfect day for Sehorn, Harmon and the Giants. Said Harmon of the day, “It means the world to me because it means the world to Jason.
“Everyone else’s mistake was that they never gave any respect to them,” she said of Giants opponents. “And if you don’t respect your opponent, you can’t very well play them.
“Every little kid has this dream to get to this point,” Harmon said and then smiled and added, “boys and girls.”
Yes dreams came true at Giants Stadium yesterday and all throughout the tri-state area. Sehorn, like every Giant, was aglow, but considering how far he has come back after blowing out his knee two years ago, this really was special.
“To be a part of this, I just thank God for getting me here,” Sehorn said after holding Moss to two catches for 18 yards. “Through all the injuries and stuff. To be healthy, to be in one piece, to be on my way to the Super Bowl, I’m just a happy camper.”
Here was the key to stopping Moss and Cris Carter: The corners played deep, knowing the two did not want to run short routes.
“If you got a team that doesn’t like to throw five-yard-outs and 10-yard-outs, you play deeper and force them to and they don’t want to,” Sehorn explained. “That’s not their game plan. Their game plan is to throw deep and to get you stretched out.”
Sehorn was quick to credit the Giants’ front.
“Those front four did it all,” he said. “Those front four put so much pressure on [Daunte] Culpepper we didn’t have to do much. That was the key to our defense today. We didn’t have to blitz a lot.”
Sehorn then offered this comment that Giants fans have to love: “And you just can’t do it for one year.”
It was that kind of glorious day for the Giants.
