A 23-foot clam boat yesterday apparently capsized and sank in rough waters in Sandy Hook Bay, dumping at least two fishermen into the sea, officials said.
The Coast Guard said two witnesses alerted them to the accident around 2:15 p.m. after they said they saw a clam boat go down about a mile from shore. The witnesses also said they also saw two people struggling to stay afloat near where the boat capsized.
A search was suspended at 10 p.m. last night, with no sign of the boat or fishermen.
