A man whose name was drawn as the lucky winner of a $1 million sweepstakes won’t claim the cash – because he thinks it’s all a hoax.
Tax giant H&R Block announced last week that a man from Turnersville, N.J., won their Million Dollar Giveaway sweepstakes.
But company spokeswoman Janine Smiley said the man, whose name is being withheld, apparently thinks it’s a rip-off and won’t come forward to claim the dough.
If he doesn’t file the proper paperwork to pick up his cash by July 6, the Kansas City-based company will have to select another winner.
“We really want a happy ending. We really encourage this person to step forward and claim his prize before his time runs out,” Smiley said.
The promotional firm running the contest got in touch with the man by phone – but he seemed skeptical about the prize.
H&R Block officials promptly sent him a note on company letterhead urging him to get in touch, and also left him a phone message.
The winner was picked during a random drawing from 17 million hopefuls. With Post Wire Services
