A British vicar preached his way into the record books yesterday by delivering a sermon that lasted nearly 29 hours – a new world record for an unscripted speech.
About 100 people were in the pews of the Rev. Chris Sterry’s church in Lancashire when he passed the existing Guinness “Book of World Records” mark of 27 hours, 30 minutes.
At the time, Sterry was lecturing on the biblical story of Daniel in the lion’s den. The 46-year-old Anglican vicar began his sermon at 6:30 a.m. Friday, lecturing on the Book of Genesis.
Sterry planned to talk for 36 hours, but called off his marathon after 28 hours and 45 minutes.
