As first reported in The Post last month, Andre Sweet, the former Rice High School star, will transfer from national champion Duke to Seton Hall.
Sweet, a 6-foot-6, 203-pound swingman, played in just seven games for the Blue Devils last year. He averaged 4.1 points and 0.6 assists. He struggled academically and was eventually suspended.
Almost as soon as Duke announced that Sweet would transfer, speculation began that Sweet would return to the area. Sweet chose the Hall and a reunion with former Rice teammate Andre Barrett, who is now the Pirates’ sophomore point guard.
“Coming from top programs like Rice and Duke, Andre has played in a competitive environment and knows how to win,” said Seton Hall coach Louis Orr.
Sweet, who will sit out the coming season and have three years of eligibility remaining, has stayed close with the other Andre. He averaged 18.3 points and 12.1 rebounds as a senior and led Rice to city and state titles in 1998 and ’99.
