Forget the heat. Forget the recession. Even forget the $99 tickets. Broadway is having a record summer.
Led by the million-dollar-plus grosses of “The Producers” and “The Lion King,” the 28 shows now on Broadway reported box-office receipts of $13,361,120 last week.
That’s a rise of $849,136 – or nearly 7 percent – over the previous week, and about half a million dollars over the same period last July.
Helping to push up the big numbers was “42nd Street,” which did its biggest business since opening in May, and Tom Selleck’s second week of regular performances in another revival, “A Thousand Clowns.”
“Riverdance” registered the biggest jump in receipts of the week, $94,084, and was among the seven shows with attendance of more than 11,000.
