A cross-country alliance of school kids presented their plan to a congressional subcommittee yesterday to print an abridged version of the U.S. Constitution on the back of dollar bills.
Students from the “Liberty Bill Project” want to replace the familiar back of the dollar – with the Great Seal of the United States, Latin inscriptions and large “ONE” – with an outline of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
“I am blown away by your presentation,” Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told students when he heard of the effort.
The students estimate a redesign of the dollar’s back would cost $500,000 – but say it would replace programs costing tens of millions of dollars to promote understanding of the U.S. government.
