The Knicks approached the Rockets about a possible sign-and-trade for free agent Hakeem Olajuwon but have so far been rebuffed. They’ve been told by Houston that its No. 1 priority is to re-sign “The Dream” before entering into trade discussions.
The Knicks’ brass never made it to Houston yesterday to meet with Olajuwon. There was speculation GM Scott Layden instead chose to speak with the Olajuwon camp in a conference call.
“The only thing we’ve been trying to do is get the Dream thing solved,” Rockets GM Carroll Dawson said. The Knicks declined to comment on free agents, as club policy.
