Mayor Giuliani says men in America are ingrained with macho attitudes that leads them to ignore their health.
“We aren’t taught as well as we should to take care of ourselves,” the mayor said at the New York Stock Exchange, where he released a new survey showing that 81 percent of men haven’t talked to their doctors about prostate cancer.
Officials of the Partnership for Prostate Health said 31,500 of the 198,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer this year will die, primarily because their illness isn’t detected early.
The mayor, who has been treated for the disease, urged all men over 50 to get a simple PSA blood test every year.
