Gwyneth Paltrow was at her father Bruce’s side yesterday when the producer and director died in Rome.
Paltrow, who celebrated her 30th birthday last week, was driven away from San Camillo Hospital, huddled in the back of a car, without saying a word to reporters.
Bruce died of complications from pneumonia and throat cancer. He was 58. Tragedy struck as the father and daughter were on a joyous Roman holiday together to celebrate Gwyneth’s birthday.
His wife, actress Blythe Danner, got the upsetting news as she was shooting her CBS hospital series “Presidio Med” in Los Angeles. She immediately left for Rome to join Gwyneth.
Funeral plans were still pending last night.
Paltrow worked on some of TV’s most critically acclaimed shows, including “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “St. Elsewhere” and “The White Shadow.”
But in recent years, he had become more famous as the father of Gwyneth, Oscar winner for “Shakespeare in Love.”
Gwyneth was quick to acknowledge she owed it all to daddy – and even repaid him by starring in the final film he directed, the dud “Duets.”
