A student at Springfield Gardens HS in Queens was stabbed in the chest yesterday in apparent revenge for beating up a fellow student who had stolen money from him, police said.
Darnell McCall, 18, suffered a punctured lung after a fellow student plunged a steak knife into his chest yesterday morning, according to cops.
He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition last night.
“He’s a good kid who’s never in trouble,” said Jessica East, a friend of McCall.
Police and students said the unidentified assailant broke into McCall’s locker and allegedly stole $130.
McCall confronted the other student Monday, demanded the return of his money and allegedly beat up the suspected thief.
Yesterday’s knifing occurred between classes in a crowded hallway. The assailant stabbed McCall and ran from the building before it was locked down.
“People were scared. The girls were crying. It was chaos,” said Brandon Marcus, 17.
Fellow students complained of lax security at the school in southeast Queens.
“This school is so bad – there’s violence here every day,” said East.
