WASHINGTON – Sen. Charles Schumer has taken more special interest money from top donors than any other member of the Senate, a new study revealed yesterday.
Schumer has pocketed more than $3 million from 100 major donors since 1989, behind only House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.) and President Bush, according to the report from the Center for Responsive Politics. For years, Schumer has capitalized on his ties to the banking and financial services industry for big bucks.
The study concluded that the nation’s 100 largest businesses and special interest groups have given more than $1 billion to political parties and federal candidates since 1989.
Six of the biggest givers are labor unions, who contribute overwhelmingly to Democrats.
