It looks as if a judge is going to decide whether the City Council acted legally when it voted last month to amend the term-limits law.
Two candidates and Councilman Marty Golden (R-Brooklyn) filed suit in Brooklyn Supreme Court yesterday, charging that the law can be changed only through public referendum.
The law was enacted by 1993 and 1996 referenda.
Golden cast one of the only two “no” votes when the law was revised last month to allow all council members to serve a minimum of two four-year terms.
Without the change, seven senior members couldn’t run for re-election next year.
