KNICK NOTES
Last time we saw Frank Williams play he was falling on his wrist during a Knicks’ summer-league game in July. Last week, Williams said his left wrist was still in such pain he doubted he’d be ready to go by preseason.
But last night, Williams, the Knicks’ first-round pick at No. 25, was expected to suit up for the first time and possibly make his Knick debut vs. the Jazz in a preseason clash.
Williams returned to full-contact practices Monday.
He admitted he may get “jitters” before his first Garden performance.
“It’s now time for me to start and make the best of it,” Williams said.
Coach Don Chaney desperately wants to see Williams play the last two preseason games, since there would appear to be little time for him once the regular season begins Oct. 30 in Detroit.
Charlie Ward has earned the starting point guard job, with Howard Eisley as backup. Williams impressed Chaney in his first practice by being able to run the offense.
“The most important thing to me is he’s been paying attention to what we’re doing,” Chaney said.
Latrell Sprewell’s agent, Bob Gist, said he felt the “wounds are getting larger and the prospect of reconciliation seems to be dying.” Gist also told The Post he regretted Sprewell’s shots at GM Scott Layden questioning his “track record.”
