A man who pleaded guilty to attempted murder for stabbing an 11-year-old boy 17 times and leaving him for dead earlier this year in a failed bid to extort $1,500 from his parents got 20 years behind bars yesterday.
Judge William Garry sentenced Arturo Garcia, 26, in accordance with a plea bargain prosecutors struck, partly to avoid having to have the traumatized victim, Alberto Muniz, testify at a trial.
Garcia would have faced up to 25 years behind bars at trial.
Police found Muniz on Feb. 16, bound and bleeding on the roof of a building in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. The boy’s father runs a bodega on the first floor. Garcia and his brothers lived in the building.
