Two women prisoners escaped from police custody yesterday, bringing the tally of escapees to 34 this year, police said.
One of the prisoners was still at large last night.
The first escape occurred in East New York, Brooklyn, at 4:50 a.m. Cops had arrested April Brown, 35, after seeing her with a crack pipe in front of 920 Vermont Ave. Brown’s hands were cuffed behind her back, and she was placed inside a police car. But she somehow jumped out of the vehicle and ran toward Wortman Avenue, where she disappeared.
At 10:10 a.m., Brown walked into the 75th Precinct station house, on Sutter Avenue, and surrendered.
In a second incident, Linda Vega, 39, escaped at 11:30 a.m. from a police facility inside Bellevue Hospital, where she was being treated for a medical condition following a robbery arrest Wednesday.
Police said Vega was handcuffed to a hospital bed, but slipped out of her restrains and escaped.
Officer Gerard Norum, who was assigned to guard her, was suspended, police said. Detectives last night were still hunting for Vega, of Summit Boulevard in The Bronx.
