So many real-life scares haunt us these days that parents tomorrow should steer their kids to Halloween costumes that are more fanciful and funny than frightening, childhood experts say.
“We’ve been exposed to so much violence and threats in real life that I think parents should be trying to create an environment that has as little violence and things that are scary as they possibly can,” said Dr. Irwin Redlener, president of The Children’s Fund.
“Don’t just go to the store and buy a really scary costume,” advised Dr. Audrey Wise, a family and child counselor. “Ask your child first.”
Costumes ranging from the spooky to the sparkly will be on display tomorrow at the annual Village Halloween Parade that steps off at 7 p.m. and moves along Sixth Avenue between Canal and 23rd streets.
