FOX has yanked David E. Kelley’s legal drama “girl’s club” after only two low-rated episodes.
In its place next Monday, Fox will air a repeat of “Boston Public” from last year.
Fox will then air specials throughout November sweeps, and determine what will air in the old “girls club” timeslot after that.
“girls club” finished a distant fourth in its two telecasts. Ironically, it followed Kelley’s drama, “Boston Public,” which airs from 8 to 9 p.m.
“girls club,” which debuted to mostly tepid critical response, revolves around three young female lawyers (Gretchen Mol, Kathleen Robertson and Chyler Leigh) working in a high-powered, San Francisco law firm.
If Fox does axe “girls club,” it will be another blow to Kelley, whose “TV wunderkind” status has taken a few hits the past several years.
While both “Boston Public” and “The Practice” continue to perform well, Fox canned Kelley’s “Ally McBeal” last season, and he didn’t have much luck with a short-lived 1999 ABC series called “Snoops.”
Kelley’s 1999 movie, “Lake Placid,” also tanked at the box office.
Kelley also created “L.A. Law,” “Chicago Hope” and “Picket Fences.”
He’s married to actress Michelle Pfeiffer.
