Stephin Merritt of Magnetic Fields, Dudley Klute (ex-Kid Montana) and Flare’s LD Beghtol got together several years ago when they discovered a mutual love for pop music – not just contemporary pop, but songs going back 500 years.
The three musicians named themselves the Three Terrors and put together a show in 1999 at the Knitting Factory to spread their joy.
“We selected some of the most tragic songs we could think of,” says Beghtol, including tunes that may sound upbeat (such as Abba’s “Winner Takes All”) but have downright downer lyrics.
Tomorrow night, the Three Terror’s will perform “Songs of Drink, Drugs & Delirium.”
The three musicians share a love for eclectic instruments as well as pop music. So besides a band, guests will also find Indian shruti boxes, ukeleles, autoharps and marxolins.
