The Major Deegan Expressway became a parking lot for several hours yesterday afternoon after a driver was killed in a two-car collision that he had caused, police said.
Christopher Simmons, 33, was driving his 1991 Chevy northbound on the Deegan, but clipped the front of a car he was cutting off in an attempt to change lanes, cops said.
Simmons, who lives in New Rochelle, lost control of his car and was ejected onto the pavement near 230th Street.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Barnabus Hospital. The driver of the Ford was not injured.
The accident caused a traffic jam that lasted for several hours from the scene of the crash all the way back to the George Washington Bridge, two miles to the south.
