She’s lost $400 million, her reputation is tarnished and she could face criminal charges any day now – but Martha Stewart is much more worried about how she looks in The Post.
In a jaw-dropping display of vanity, the disgraced diva of domesticity says the many exclusive photos the paper has run of her in the past year make her normally perky, youthful face look haggard and distraught.
And just in case you’ve forgotten those snaps – let us refresh your memory (above).
Stewart complains that it’s these candid pictures in New York’s favorite newspaper that are, in fact, “even more damaging” than anything being written or said about her.
In fact, being raked over the coals by Jay Leno, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien on a nightly basis isn’t nearly as bad, she tells this week’s New Yorker magazine.
The late-night gabmeisters “have a job to do. They can comment on anybody in a playful way, and I don’t think it’s at all damaging,” Stewart says.
But, she fumes, The Post runs “the ugliest pictures. And I’m a pretty photogenic person, I mean, and they manage to find the doozies.”
She adds that even Newsweek has shifted into Martha-bashing mode, running a photo of her with the words, “If she had been nicer to people on the way up, they’d be nicer to her on the way down.”
“I’ve never not been nice to anybody!” a ruffled Stewart insists.
