A simple van accident in Brooklyn turned deadly last night when a gunman – who was not involved in the crash – killed a witness, sped off in one of the smashed vehicles and ran down another man, cops said.
The bizarre events began at around 6 p.m. when a white van rear-ended an Access-a-Ride ambulette at the corner of Rutland Road and Rockaway Parkway in Brownsville.
The ambulette driver contacted his supervisor, who arrived to take pictures of the accident scene.
Police said the collision was being handled peaceably by the parties involved.
Suddenly, witnesses said, the gunman started firing, killing one man and critically wounding another.
It was not clear why the gunman opened fire.
The shooter then jumped into the van – its keys were still in the ignition – and sped off north on Rockaway Parkway.
In his haste, he struck the Access-a-Ride supervisor, who is reported in stable condition.
