They’ve got a cardboard cat, a cardboard car – even a cardboard haircut. But no one’s ever called the Paper Bag Players flat. Funny, yes; flat, no.
Started in 1958, Judith Martin’s theater is still packing them in. Forget the critical kudos – we’re talking about an hourlong show that keeps its 4- to 9-year-old audience in stitches, if not in their seats. (Hey, it’s interactive.)
This season’s show, running weekends through March 9, is called “The Cat’s Meow.” It boasts four actors, a one-man band – and lots of paper.
There are 10 skits in all, including the story of a girl’s first trip to a barbershop (where she learns, firsthand, the meaning of a “bad hair day”) and the tale of the little boy who flees his bath.
Showtimes are Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, 68th Street between Park and Lexington avenues. For tickets – $10 to $25 – call (212) 772-4448.
