GUSTUS LEAVIN’ LOUGHLIN

Ted Gustus has been in the coaching business for 32 years, but after this season ends at Bishop Loughlin, so will Gustus’ coaching career.

“It was a tough decision,” said Gustus, whose Lions are 10-11. “But I have other things I need to do that I feel can benefit more people.”

Gustus is leaving Loughlin so that he can focus on his company, Communities in Partnership Corporation, which is dedicated to raising money for inner city areas through non-profit organizations.

“I started the company seven years ago, but now it’s really taking off and since I’m the visionary, I need to be there,” said Gustus, who is in his third year at Loughlin and also spent 11 years at the helm at Nazareth, winning a pair of CHSAA “B” championships. “My heart is in coaching, but it’s time to move on.”

Gustus counts his former players Rolando Blackman and John Salley as investors. He added that the school has asked to help in finding a replacement for next season, but that there are no candidates yet.

Longtime Loughlin assistant Ken Pretlow was a candidate for the job before Gustus was named and figures to be on the list again.
