Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday he’s closely watching London’s plan to charge drivers who enter the city’s business district during rush hour – and noted it’s been suggested for New York.
Bloomberg met with a top London official this week to talk about her city’s “congestion pricing” program, under which motorists will be charged $8 to drive into the central part of the city during weekdays.
“It would be fascinating to see how well or poorly it goes in London,” Bloomberg said yesterday on his weekly WABC radio show.
On Thursday, the mayor met at City Hall with visiting London Deputy Mayor Nicky Gavron to review the traffic plan that goes into effect on Feb. 17.
“A lot of people have suggested it for here,” Bloomberg said.
“Everybody’s going to be watching – I think every municipality – to see how well or poorly it works,” he added.
The mayor has already incurred the wrath of some motorists by calling for tolls the four East River bridges.
