A free, private newsletter is helping to keep baggage handlers, luggage screeners and Transportation Security Administration officials up to date on the latest security issues.
The Homeland Security Report, compiled by Anthony Davis, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, features news-wire articles, nonclassified government reports and a weekly description of a dangerous item that could be smuggled onto airplanes.
Concealable, lethal objects highlighted by Davis include a lighter that holds a blade, a polymer letter opener, a bottle opener with a fold-out knife, an 11-inch plastic spear, a blade built into a necklace charm and a pen-sized stun gun capable of emitting a charge of 100,000 volts.
“I wanted to find a way to reach out to the law-enforcement community to provide a no-nonsense report that gives a quick overview of our homeland security posture,” Davis told Public Safety Journal, an online newsletter. Written for intelligence and law-enforcement personnel, Davis’ newsletter has been requested by the Pentagon, the U.S. Embassy in Kenya and other law-enforcement agencies.
