The worst winter to hit New York in years put a double-whammy on the Big A yesterday, closing down live racing after the first race because of the bitter cold and forcing the cancellation of today’s card in anticipation of the approaching blizzard.
After winning the opener aboard Juan Valdez, jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, who’s been riding winters at Aqueduct for five years, said, “It’s very, very cold, colder than I can ever remember.”
Today’s Presidents’ Day card will be run, exactly as it was drawn, on Wednesday.
