HOLLAND America’s newest ship is its biggest, has the line’s first disco and largest spa, and an impressive reservations-only restaurant. But it’s the elevators that are the most astonishing.
The Zuiderdam, the first of five ships in the line’s Vista class, has four glass-enclosed exterior elevators midship – that’s right, going up and down outside the vessel – with dramatic views.
And, if you’re familiar with HAL’s traditional interior décor, you’ll be surprised by the bold color schemes on board.
The 82,000-ton Zuiderdam accommodates up to 1,848 passengers, and two-thirds of its cabins have private verandas.
It sails year-round on Saturdays round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., alternating between the eastern and western Caribbean. Fares begin at $799 per person (cruise only, based on double occupancy); (877) 724-5425, hollandamerica.com.
