City Council opponents of a war against Iraq said yesterday they have the votes to enact a resolution condemning a U.S. war against Saddam Hussein without U.N. approval.
“We’re confident it will pass [at tomorrow’s session],” said Bill Perkins (D-Manhattan), the sponsor.
Bill de Blasio (D-Brooklyn) said talks were continuing to try to reach consensus language, but “I’d be amazed if there was unanimity.”
But several council members told The Post they’d dissent.
“Nobody wants war, but I think we’d be a lot safer if there were fewer psychopaths in control of nuclear and chemical weapons,” said Lew Fidler (D-Brooklyn).
