A cyanide-laced letter that threatens a terror attack at the America’s Cup yachting regatta has been intercepted in New Zealand, it was reported today.
Enough cyanide was in the letter to have killed 15 people, said police in Auckland, where the prestigious yachting event is now being staged.
The chilling note warned that war in Iraq could trigger terrorist action in Auckland, The New Zealand Herald said.
Three letters containing a white substance were sent to the U.S. Embassy in Auckland and the British and Australian High Commissions last week.
Only one of the letters contained cyanide.
Police would not reveal which one was spiked with the poison. The other two were found to contain a harmless substance.
Cops said the threat could be linked to a letter received at the U.S. Embassy a year ago, warning of an attack on the New Zealand Golf Open, where Tiger Woods was playing.
