The grand jury probing the nightclub inferno that killed 97 people in Rhode Island is convening today.
Among those expected to testify are members of the band Great White, whose pyrotechnics ignited the blaze that destroyed The Station in West Warwick Thursday.
It’s unclear whether the club’s owners, brothers Jeffrey and Michael Derderian, were subpoenaed.
Great White claims it received permission from the club to use fireworks. The Derderians say they were never asked about the use of pyrotechnics.
The Station’s stage manager, Paul Vanner, told the Boston Herald he had warned the Derderians about dangers from pyrotechnics three months ago, and that none had been used between then and the Great White show.
The fireworks ignited soundproofing. State law bars the use flammable acoustic material like polyurethane foam.
“If it was [polyurethane], then the governor’s going to want an answer to the question, ‘Why was it there?’ ” said Gov. Don Carcieri’s spokesman.
