The Man in Black is gone and the tributes to Johnny Cash have begun.
Nashville paid homage to Cash, who died in September at age 70, earlier this month, with musicians such as Kid Rock, daughter Rosanne Cash, and George Jones. But the Knitting Factory has a very different kind of show planned for tomorrow. Billed as a two-floor event, the Knit’s Johnny Cash Tribute, a benefit for the Diabetes Association, features more than 30 artists doing Cash covers.
It’s a diverse group of musicians to put it lightly. Cutting across all genres, performers include Eugene Hutz from the Ukrainian chaos-punk band Gogol Bordello and raucous rockabilly act the Blind Pharaohs (who have been known to pass around a jar of moonshine), as well as the Folsom Prisonaires, Satan’s Teardrops, Memphis Morticians, Famous in Vegas and more.
You can begin walking the line at 6 p.m.
The Knitting Factory: 74 Leonard St., at Church Street; [212] 219-3006); Tickets: $10.
