A Brooklyn man was killed by a gunshot over something that most New Yorkers handle by saying, “Sorry” or, “Excuse me,” police said.
Omar Carino was entering the Liberty Food Market at Linden Street and Wyckoff Avenue in Bushwick on Saturday morning when he bumped into another man, cops said.
The bump led Carino, 25, and the other man, believed to be in his mid 20s, to step outside and exchange heated words, witnesses told cops.
Then the unidentified man pulled out a gun and shot Carino in the head.
Carino, who lived about a block away from the store, was taken to Wyckoff Heights Hospital. He died from his injuries on Sunday.
His neighbors remembered him as a nice person and a hard-working food salesman.
Carino made his living buying fresh food – onions, chicken, rice, beef, cheese and tomatoes – from wholesalers in Brooklyn and Queens.
Then he’d drive around in his car, reselling the food and produce to friends and family in Brooklyn, Queens and New Jersey.
“He was a very nice guy. I’m very sad . . . I couldn’t believe it, because he was so young,” said 13-year-old Vanessa Ruiz, who lives in Carino’s building.
