BUSH USHERS IN NEW MEDIC-ERA

WASHINGTON – President Bush yesterday signed into law a massive Medicare overhaul that will help 40 million seniors pay for their prescriptions.

“Our government is finally bringing prescription-drug coverage to the seniors of America,” said Bush, who campaigned on the issue three years ago.

“We’re giving older Americans better choices and more control over their health care so they can receive the modern medical care they deserve,” added Bush, who signed the bill surrounded by a contingent of senior citizens.

Many Democrats, including all nine presidential candidates, criticized the bill. They say the plan doesn’t do enough for the poorest seniors and that its incentives to attract people into private managed-care plans could leave the elderly more vulnerable.
