A boozed-up Levittown man was hit with reckless driving charges after heading down the Long Island Expressway yesterday in the wrong direction.
Startled drivers called 911 around 1:40 a.m. after whizzing by Edward Franks, 22, as he drove west in the expressway’s eastbound HOV lane near Dix Hills.
Highway patrolman Peter Knudsen happened to be in the area and found himself barreling toward Franks in the same lane.
He managed to corral the vehicle, eventually pulling Franks over near exit 50 on the expressway.
Franks was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and various other traffic violations. He pleaded not guilty in Central Islip court.
