DAVID Letterman’s “Late Show” is morphing into the “Early” show – at least for one day.
“Late Show” will tape its Friday, May 14 show at 4 a.m. in front of a (tired?) studio audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater. The taping will air that night in “Late Show’s” regular timeslot (11:35 p.m./Ch. 2).
“It’s just a silly idea, and an idea that appealed to us,” said “Late Show” executive producer Rob Burnett. “The city is an interesting place, particularly at 4 a.m. – we’ll exploit that in some way, and it will be something different.”
Burnett said the early-morning taping idea had been floating around for a while.
“We’ll absolutely do a remote and we’ll probably have some kind of quiz about the city at 4 a.m. and lots of shots of the city,” he said. “There’s no sense in doing it unless we take the cameras outside.”
“Nightcrawlers” who want to be in the studio audience can call (212) 846-2566 or go to cbs.com/latenight/lateshow to apply for tickets.
“Normally we have a 67-year waiting list for tickets,” Burnett joked. “I have a feeling that, in theory, it should be easier to get tickets.”
