Police launched a manhunt yesterday for a man who tried to abduct a 9-year-old Bronx girl, authorities said.
They said the man tried to lure the girl into a white van Wednesday as she waited for a bus at around 5 p.m. at the corner of West Farms Road and East Tremont Avenue.
The man is described as a heavyset white or Hispanic man, between 40 and 45 years old, about 6 feet tall with a beard and mustache.
The attacker tried to kidnap the girl after telling her that her mother had sent him to the bus stop to pick her up, cops said.
The girl told cops that when she refused to get into his van, he jumped out of the vehicle and grabbed her left arm.
But the quick-thinking girl courageously fought back, kicking him a few times before running off. The man got back into his van and sped off.
Cops at the 48th Precinct circulated fliers of the man in the hope that anyone who saw the incident will come forward and identify him.
Anyone with any information can call Crimestoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
