The law firm behind the 1-800-INNOCENT subway ads has been found 1-800-GUILTY of being rude to its clients.
The state Appellate Division has issued a public censure against the law firm of Wilens and Baker for its “pattern of rude and uncivil conduct towards clients,” including berating them and “yelling at them.”
The court said the public rebuke was necessary because the firm is very public – its ads, which include the phone numbers for 1-800-DIVORCE, 1-800-IMMIGRATION and 1-800-BANKRUPT, are all over city buses and subways.
One of the worst offenders was the firm’s founder, Lawrence Wilens, 61, who was found to have committed “serious misconduct” because of “eight instances of rude and uncivil conduct.”
Wilens didn’t return a call for comment.
