The Long Island pit bull that neighbors and officials allege is a serial cat killer was set free yesterday – because no one actually saw any of the deadly attacks.
The dog’s owner, Maryellyn Feiler, a former Long Beach official, paid a $50 fine, plus $193 in boarding and vaccination fees, to the local animal shelter and was given a warning by a Long Beach city judge to keep the animal chained up.
Feiler and her husband, John, were not charged with letting Aries, their pit bull, kill cats – only with having an unlicensed dog and allowing him to run free without a leash.
