The World Trade Center official accused of failing to answer letters asking him to testify at the 9/11 commission hearings says he’ll meet with commission members today. Lloyd Thompson, deputy fire safety director at 1 World Trade Center, insists he never got the panel’s invitations.
His testimony is considered critical because fire officials say it was his job to activate the repeater, a device designed to aid communication. It’s been charged that more than 100 firefighters never got the order to evacuate because the repeater was inoperable.
“Mr. Thompson feels a moral imperative to clear his name,” said Ronald Kuby, his lawyer. “By all appearances to us, the repeater was actually activated.”
