Oh goody gumdrops!
There were no kisses, Hershey’s or otherwise, for a resolution to ban the sale and possession of candy in Brooklyn, which got chewed up and spat out like so much bubble gum last night.
Gary Popkin, vice chair of the Brooklyn Republican Party, reacting to a wave of laws banning or restricting harmful products, offered a spoof resolution to ban sweets because “candy is more deleterious to the health of the residents of Kings County overall even than marijuana and cocaine, because of candy’s vastly more widespread use.”
At crunch time, there were good and plenty votes against the resolution – there was no sugarcoating the fact that about 84 percent of the Brooklyn GOP found it distasteful.
It was unclear whether the results were met with snickers or kudos.
“I still felt I made my point,” Popkin said. “Some people want to ban cigarettes and tax high-fat foods. Where does it end?”
