Call it their “Big Fat Greek Adventure.”
In the proud Homeric tradition, two Greek-Americans from Brooklyn will brave squalls, pirates and the war on terror and sail from Sheepshead Bay on Sunday, bound for the Athens Olympics as spectators.
“We have two problems to deal with,” said one of the seamen, Sheepshead Bay resident Christos Katehis, 40. “There is pirating taking place close to shore off North Africa. And the other is terrorism security measures.”
The 10-week journey will begin when the 40-foot sailboat Adele launches from Brooklyn, headed for its first layover in the Portuguese Azores Islands, located midway across the Atlantic.
From there, Katehis and his partner, Andonis Prikas, will sail to Gibraltar for a final stop before heading into the Aegean.
